Cloud Native Software Application Developer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Native Software Application Developer with strong expertise in designing and developing enterprise software applications on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform. This is a Software Development position not a DevOps, Infrastructure, or Cloud Engineering role. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building cloud-native applications, serverless architectures, and enterprise integration solutions using AWS services, Python, and SOAP-based web services. The successful candidate will join a high-performing Agile team supporting the modernization of a mission-critical Criminal Justice Exchange platform. This initiative focuses on transforming an existing legacy integration solution into a scalable, cloud-native AWS platform that securely exchanges data among state agencies, counties, municipalities, and third-party systems.
Project Overview
The Criminal Justice Exchange Program (CJEP) modernization initiative is replacing a legacy Software AG based integration platform with a modern, cloud-native architecture built on AWS. The New Platform Will Enable secure data exchange between state, county, and municipal agencies. Integrate with third-party vendors and government systems. Leverage existing APIs and web services while introducing modern cloud-native services. Improve scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency using serverless AWS technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Build enterprise software using AWS services including: AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Amazon S3, Step Functions, and State Machines.
- Develop highly available and secure serverless applications using Python.
- Design reusable application components following cloud-native best practices.
- Optimize applications for performance, scalability, resiliency, and maintainability.
- Design and implement serverless architectures using AWS Lambda.
- Develop workflow automation using AWS Step Functions and State Machines.
- Build event-driven integrations between cloud services and enterprise applications.
- Develop RESTful and service-oriented integrations using AWS-native technologies.
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise SOAP-based web services.
- Work extensively with: XML, XSD, WSDL, and SOAP protocols.
- Implement secure custom SOAP headers for authentication, authorization, and message integrity.
- Develop MTOM (Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism) solutions for transmitting binary attachments such as PDF documents.
- Integrate cloud-native applications with legacy enterprise systems and third-party services.
- Participate in Agile SCRUM ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Architects, QA Engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Produce clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry best practices.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests.
- Perform code reviews and maintain high coding standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues across development, testing, and production environments.
- Continuously improve application performance, security, and reliability.
- Stay current with AWS services, cloud-native architecture patterns, and modern software engineering practices.
- Share technical knowledge and mentor team members when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- 8+ years of professional software application development experience.
- 5+ years developing cloud-native applications on AWS.
- Strong hands-on experience with: AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and Amazon S3.
- 5+ years developing serverless applications using Python and AWS Lambda.
- 5+ years building workflow orchestration using AWS Step Functions and State Machines.
- 5+ years designing and developing SOAP-based web services.
- Strong experience with: XML, XSD, WSDL, and SOAP.
- Experience implementing: Custom SOAP headers, MTOM attachments, and secure web service integrations.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and cloud-native application design.
- Experience working within Agile SCRUM environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certified Developer Associate or other AWS certifications.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
- Familiarity with DevOps concepts supporting application deployment.
- Experience with Docker containerization.
- Experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration platforms.
- Experience integrating enterprise applications with third-party systems and government platforms.
