About the role
Employees in this job function are responsible for designing, building, and deploying cloud-based infrastructure and managed services to achieve scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiencies for private and public cloud systems that support the business. They focus on creating opinionated cloud environments and systems like Storage as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service, which form building blocks used by other enterprise and product teams.
A Cloud Engineer with a software-development background who can understand Java/Python code, make smaller changes when needed, configure and maintain cloud applications/services, and work with observability tools such as Dynatrace and Splunk. Prior experience with the company’s development processes and environment is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design and deploy opinionated cloud environments and platforms aligned with enterprise architecture and security requirements while meeting business-critical needs.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, security teams, solution architects, and product teams to design, build, and deploy cloud infrastructure solutions for scalability, availability, performance, and security.
- Monitor system usage to predict future needs, ensuring appropriate scaling of IT resources.
- Develop automation scripts and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates for configuring and provisioning complex cloud resources, including identity services, virtual private clouds, gateways, SSL, Kubernetes clusters, and NoSQL data stores.
- Integrate enterprise security and disaster recovery policies into cloud infrastructure configurations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations for data protection and retention.
- Design, implement, and optimize cloud-based storage solutions for data availability, security, and cost efficiency.
- Assist in executing technology strategy and engineering roadmaps, optimizing cloud expenditure, maximizing resource usage, and ensuring high availability across geographic regions.
- Evaluate new and emerging cloud technologies for incorporation into existing systems and assist in modernization efforts, including migrations of on-prem services to cloud systems.
- Design highly available, resilient, and cost-optimized application integration solutions on GCP.
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform.
- Configure IAM, Secret Manager, Cloud DNS, Cloud Load Balancer, and HA/DR environments.
- Work with Cloud SQL and NoSQL databases, backup/recovery, and high availability architectures.
- Apply DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and SRE practices in Google Cloud Platform.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in IT.
- 3+ years of experience in development.
- 3+ years of experience with Java and Python.
- Experience with GCP, Dynatrace, and Splunk.
- Experience with Cloud SQL, NoSQL databases, backup/recovery, and high availability architectures.
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
- Programming experience in Java, Python, or Go.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Apigee, Java, or API development.
- Prior experience with the company’s development processes and environment.
Skills
- Required: GCP, Dynatrace, Splunk, Java, Python, IaC (Terraform), CI/CD, DevOps, SRE practices.
- Preferred: Apigee, API experience.
