About the role
Samaritan's Purse has an incredible opportunity for a Cloud Engineer to join our Information Technology department. This fully remote (or on-site) role is part of the Samaritan Ark Cloud Services team, with a strong focus on Site Reliability. As a Cloud Engineer, you'll play a vital part in enabling ministries to spread the Gospel by ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of our cloud platforms. We run a fully on-premise, open-source environment, and you'll focus on maintaining self-hosted tools that empower developers and operators.
Responsibilities
- Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him.
- Build, maintain, and optimize cloud infrastructure platform services that support the deployment and operation of ministry-critical workloads in our private cloud platform.
- Utilize various Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist in optimizing engineering builds.
- Provision and automate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tools to support development and production environments.
- Monitor applications and infrastructure performance and respond to incidents as part of an on-call rotation, supporting root cause analysis and long-term remediation.
- Contribute to internal tooling and documentation to improve team productivity, technical consistency, and system knowledge-sharing.
- Assist in evaluating cost implications and supporting optimization efforts for cloud resource usage; coordinate implementation efforts across stakeholders and vendors as needed.
- Assist in the evaluation and adoption of emerging cloud technologies, advocating for improvements in resilience, cost, and maintainability.
- Actively participate in team ceremonies, including stand-ups, retrospectives, and planning meetings, fostering continuous improvement and shared accountability.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or university program certificate in a related field, plus five (5) to seven (7) years of Cloud Engineering experience, or seven (7) or more years of related experience.
- Proven SRE or DevOps experience with a focus on reliability, automation, and production operations.
- Extensive experience with observability systems, building and maintaining production stacks such as Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Datadog, or Dynatrace.
- Extensive GitOps experience with tools like ArgoCD or Flux, including management of self-hosted Git platforms such as Gitea or GitLab.
- Hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production, strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, and comfort with open-source, on-premise environments; OpenStack experience is a plus.
- 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, an opportunity to meet and complete the requirement is available upon hire.
