Duties And Responsibilities
- Design and implement AWS cloud-native microservices supporting RPC-based appointment, scheduling, and workflow capabilities.
- Develop and maintain Kafka/MSK event producers and consumers that support reliable, event-driven data flows.
- Implement event-routing patterns, including topic segmentation, schema versioning, replay strategies, retry logic, and dead-letter handling.
- Build and integrate secure WebSocket-based streaming services that provide real-time user interface updates without page refresh.
- Develop APIs and integration components that support interoperability with external healthcare and VA enterprise systems.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation using Jenkins, Bitbucket, Terraform, Packer, or comparable tools.
- Deploy, configure, and support containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes in AWS environments.
- Implement and maintain logging, monitoring, alerting, and dashboard capabilities using Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, and AWS-native services.
- Apply secure engineering practices, including IAM, secrets management, encryption, least-privilege access, and Zero Trust principles.
- Troubleshoot application, integration, and platform issues and support performance tuning, resiliency testing, and incident resolution.
- Produce technical documentation, configuration guidance, and operational runbooks for developed services.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, design reviews, code reviews, sprint planning, and cross-functional technical discussions.
Knowledge And Skills Required
- 2–4 years of experience in cloud engineering, software development, platform engineering, or a related technical role.
- Practical knowledge of AWS fundamentals and cloud-native application development in secure enterprise environments.
- Experience developing APIs, microservices, or distributed applications using one or more modern programming languages.
- Exposure to Kafka, AWS MSK, or another enterprise messaging platform and a working understanding of event-driven architecture.
- Understanding of producer/consumer patterns, event schemas, retry processing, replay, and resilient integration design.
- Familiarity with Docker, Git-based workflows, automated testing, and CI/CD delivery practices.
- Foundational knowledge of Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, or the demonstrated ability to learn them quickly.
- Familiarity with application logging, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance analysis in distributed environments.
- Understanding of cloud security concepts, including IAM, secrets management, encryption, and least privilege.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and operations teams.
Knowledge And Skills Desired
- Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs, another Federal agency, or a regulated enterprise environment.
- Experience with Appian or integration between cloud-native services and low-code workflow platforms.
- Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, CloudWatch, or similar technologies.
- Understanding of healthcare interoperability, appointment scheduling, or other mission-critical workflow systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Clearance
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
