Cloud Engineer

Job Summary

SMSI, LLC is seeking a Cloud Architect/Engineer with experience building and securing platforms on AWS, Azure, and GCP to support our client onsite at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. This role is hybrid and can be based anywhere within 2-3 hours of Los Alamos, NM.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with IT teams, DevOps, and Cloud Architects to support infrastructure with code and building guardrails for multi cloud platforms.
• Support mission, scientific, and enterprise workloads in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
• Optimize the use of information technology, ensure seamless delivery and operation of IT services by monitoring system performance, applying configuration management practices, creating processes and standards for selection and implementation.

Requirements

• 8-10 years of information technology experience is required.
• Experience deploying and managing cloud environments in AWS and GCP (Azure exposure a plus), including provisioning computer, networking, storage, IAM, and managed services.
• Strong working knowledge of cloud platform engineering, including IAM roles/policies, load balancing, autoscaling, and secure service configurations.
• Experience with code / building guardrails for multi cloud platforms.
• Experience with multi cloud platforms, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, and Azure.
• Experience with cloud buildouts.
• Observation and Monitoring experience.
• Optimization experience.
• Terraform experience.
• Kubernetes/ containerization.
• Building Landing Zones.
• Cloud networking.
• Cloud specific AI offerings.
• DevSecOps.

Preferred Skills

• Strong experience in government (DOE or DOD) in GCC high environments is preferred.
• Active or recently inactive Q clearance is preferred but not required.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related discipline, along with 8-10 years of experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Cloud certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work onsite at LANL up to 2-3 days per week.
