Cloud DevSecOps Architect

About the role

The Cloud DevSecOps Architect provides architecture strategies supporting resiliency, scalability, modular design patterns, and capability re-use for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Product Delivery Services (PDS), Benefits and Memorials (BAM), Memorial and Benefit Services (MBS). The role delivers secure, reliable, and effective Information Technology (IT) solutions that support the Department’s mission.

Responsibilities include recommending architectural changes and technology improvements to enhance security (zero trust), performance, resiliency, and operational efficiency. The architect integrates data analytics, AI/ML, and BI requirements into architecture and solution designs, produces Solution Architecture Packages for government decision-making, and designs and governs CI/CD architecture, including automated builds, testing, deployments, and rollback strategies.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Infrastructure as Code (IaC) alignment with VA cloud compliance standards.
• Implement observability (“Monitoring as Code”) across infrastructure, OS, application, and integrations.
• Build and maintain DevSecOps pipelines supporting multiple technology stacks (.Net Core, Java, JavaScript, SQL, Python, etc.).
• Define and deliver monitoring plans, dashboards, DevSecOps maturity metrics, and automated testing reports.
• Ensure automated security testing, static/dynamic scanning, and compliance checks are integrated into CI/CD.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or an IT-related degree.
• 7-10 years of relevant experience.
• Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevSecOps tooling (Jenkins, GitHub, Nexus, Docker, Kubernetes, Sonar, Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure DevOps).
• Expertise in cloud architecture, Infrastructure as Code, and VA Enterprise Cloud operational requirements.
• Strong knowledge of security standards (NIST, RMF), ATO processes, zero trust, and vulnerability remediation.
• Familiarity with multiple development stacks: .Net Core, Java, JavaScript frameworks, SQL, Python, Bash, Groovy.
• Experience leading cross-functional DevSecOps, Agile, and System Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC).
• Experience with Azure DevOps.
