About the role

This role combines deep technical expertise with team leadership, ensuring our high-performing infrastructure team delivers exceptional services to support Arkana's medical practice operations, Clinical Trials business line, and custom applications like Arkana Connect.

Responsibilities

  • Drive operational excellence and technological advancement within our infrastructure team while leading the transition from on-premise legacy systems to cloud-native healthcare platforms.
  • Lead the transition from on-premise legacy systems to cloud-native healthcare platforms.
  • Oversee 2 infrastructure team members while maintaining hands-on involvement in cloud engineering, network operations, and healthcare infrastructure functions.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and team meetings to provide guidance, feedback, and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on innovation, technical excellence, and healthcare compliance.
  • Drive adoption of modern DevOps practices and cloud-native technologies across the team.
  • Cloud Strategy & Technical Operations Lead cloud architecture design and implementation for healthcare applications and data platforms.
  • Oversee day-to-day operational activities across internal and healthcare infrastructure environments.
  • Drive migration strategy from on-premise infrastructure to cloud-native solutions (AWS preferred).
  • Ensure proactive monitoring, maintenance planning, and execution of infrastructure tasks.
  • Design and implement scalable, secure cloud infrastructure supporting Arkana Connect and analytics platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data (HIPAA) service delivery and problem resolution.
  • Lead incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis efforts.
  • Manage change management processes and coordinate with stakeholders on infrastructure updates.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure infrastructure solutions meet business requirements.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues and infrastructure incidents.
  • Support Clinical Trials infrastructure requirements and specialized healthcare system integrations.
  • Platform Engineering & Continuous Improvement Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure monitoring.
  • Drive continuous improvement of tools, processes, and automation initiatives.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for infrastructure operations.
  • Implement and optimize cloud security, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices and automation across all infrastructure components.
  • Strategic Technology Leadership Provide technical expertise and recommendations on emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Contribute to vendor evaluations and technology selection decisions.
  • Collaborate with Director of Engineering on infrastructure budget planning and technology roadmap.
  • Support data hygiene initiatives and legacy system migration projects.
  • Partner with development teams to optimize application deployment and performance in healthcare environments.

Qualifications

  • Required Experience: 5-8 years of progressive infrastructure/systems engineering experience with 2-3 years in leadership or senior technical role.
  • Proven experience leading cloud migration projects from on-premise to cloud environments.
  • Experience leading small teams and managing complex technical projects in healthcare or regulated environments.
  • Strong background in cloud platforms (AWS strongly preferred, Azure or GCP acceptable).
  • Healthcare, medical practice, or regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud/on-premise infrastructure management and ITIL processes.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with strong preference for AWS.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and DevOps practices.
  • Understanding of network architecture, security frameworks, and compliance requirements (HIPAA).
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic, etc.).
  • Knowledge of database administration in cloud environments (RDS, managed databases).

Leadership & Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to lead small teams, conduct regular 1:1s, and provide professional development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to serve as primary escalation point for complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with vendor management, change management processes, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure during incident response and system outages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field preferred.
  • Relevant cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, or equivalent).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates).
  • Experience with healthcare data systems, EHR integrations, and medical device connectivity.
  • Knowledge of data engineering platforms and analytics infrastructure (supporting Tableau, etc.).
  • Experience with security frameworks, compliance auditing, and change management in regulated environments.
  • Background with Clinical Trials infrastructure and specialized healthcare system requirements.
  • Experience in managed services or consulting environments with client-facing responsibilities.
