About the Project
Kryvyi Rig Cement is initiating an investment project to renovate its current clinker kiln, aiming to modernize it for burning alternative fuels and increase productivity to 4,000 t/day (a 15% increase), maximizing the potential of the existing kiln design.
Project Strategy and Timeline
The introduction of alternative fuel will be implemented in three stages:
- Stage 1 (4th quarter 2024 – 4th quarter 2025):
- Alternative fuel replacement: 2–5%
- Kiln capacity: 4,000 t/day
- Stage 1.1: Reach 5–10% replacement on the calciner
- Stage 1.2: Increase kiln productivity to 4,000 t/day of clinker
- Stage 2 (2026–2027): Achieve 20–30% substitution on the calciner
- Stage 3 (2027–2029): Achieve 50% or more substitution on the calciner
Economic Effect
- Replace approximately 45% of coal with RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel), reducing energy costs:
- Coal: 6.0 USD/GJ (calorific value ~6,000 kcal/kg)
- RDF fuel: 4.2 USD/GJ (calorific value ~4,500 kcal/kg)
- Reduce energy consumption for clinker firing from 3.4 to 3.2 GJ per ton of clinker
