Clinician Trainee/ Clinician (Non-Public School)

The Clinician provides comprehensive mental health services to students, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of emotional and behavioral issues. This role involves delivering individual and group rehabilitation, developing and implementing personalized treatment plans, and working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support students' well-being and academic success.

Qualifications

• Master of Arts or Master of Science degree from an accredited graduate program with a major in Social Work, Counseling, or other related degree required (must be license-eligible: LCSW, LMFT, LPCC).
• BBS registration, licenses, credentials, or like certifications must remain active and valid with their governing entity, if applicable.
• One year of experience working with children preferred.
• Knowledge of community resources preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Bilingual preferred.
• Valid California driver’s license is required for staff with regular driving duties; driving record must meet agency requirements and be approved by the agency’s insurance company.

Responsibilities

• Operate an agency or personal vehicle for work-related activities, including client visits, meetings, trainings, or other agency-related appointments.
• Ensure compliance with driving requirements, including maintaining a valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and proof of insurance as required by agency policy.
• Provide direct clinical services to clients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
• Utilize program-specific screening tools for admission assessment and treatment planning.
• Keep comprehensive clinical records that meet agency, The Joint Commission, and contractual standards.
• Collaborate with program staff, referring agencies, or other community agencies to coordinate treatment.
• Implement program goals and objectives to meet and maintain contractual requirements and productivity.
• Navigate and utilize required electronic health records (EHR).
• Communicate effectively with clients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to teach life domain skills, adhering to principles of normalization.
• Participate in scheduled peer reviews.
• Maintain a culture of quality and safety, including infection prevention and control.
• Use de-escalation skills and techniques for crisis prevention.
• Administer the C-SSRS (Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale) to help prevent suicide.
• Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques for crisis prevention and intervention.
• Be available to milieu staff to answer questions and assist with crises.
• Attend all required meetings and trainings.
• Report suspected child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect immediately to a direct supervisor or through the chain of command.
• Report any client imminent danger to self or others, or grave disability, immediately to a direct supervisor or through the chain of command.
• Physical capability to restrain children, lift over 20 pounds, and engage in physical activity, including sitting, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and reaching.
• Ability to communicate ideas in oral and written form while protecting individual integrity through confidentiality.
• Ability to work harmoniously with subordinates, supervisors, and others, and to instruct in group and individual settings.
• Ability to work effectively with cultural/ethnic diversity.
• Maintain adequate physical, mental, and emotional health to perform duties.
• Adhere to all applicable legal and ethical standards.
• Maintain current Medic First Aid certification and respond appropriately to medical incidents.
• Complete the 28-hour initial Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training and maintain certification through a minimum of 12 hours of annual refresher training.
• Consistently apply TCI principles to manage crises safely and effectively, in alignment with trauma-informed care and agency protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay

Base Pay: $27.00–$42.66/hour
