About the Role

Join our Mobile Crisis Intervention (MCI) and Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC) team to help advance our mission of empowering people to live healthier, more fulfilling lives. As an MCI Clinician, you will provide in-person behavioral health crisis services in Western Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person behavioral health crisis assessment, intervention, stabilization, and post-stabilization services to individuals who present to the Community Behavioral Health Center (CBHC), regardless of clinical acuity.
• Evaluate individuals who arrive as walk-ins, through police drop-off, or by telehealth and complete comprehensive risk assessments to determine the safest and most appropriate level of care.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary crisis team—including psychiatry, clinical leadership, qualified behavioral health clinicians, certified peer specialists, and recovery coaches—to determine treatment recommendations and next steps.
• Use evidence-based clinical tools and sound clinical judgment to complete comprehensive behavioral health assessments, diagnostic assessments, and level-of-care determinations.
• Identify and implement community-based and diversionary service options that meet medical-necessity criteria, promote safety, and reduce avoidable inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.
• Clearly explain assessment findings, treatment recommendations, safety plans, and follow-up expectations so individuals and their supports understand the proposed course of care.
• Provide clinical consultation and support to other clinicians completing crisis evaluations and assist with the training and development of new clinicians and interns.
• Support CBHC Access Center operations when assigned and available by completing intakes and assessments for individuals seeking behavioral health services.
• Complete progress notes, comprehensive and diagnostic assessments, and all other required electronic documentation accurately, thoroughly, and within established timelines and regulatory requirements.
• Integrate mental health, substance-use, resiliency, wellness, and recovery principles throughout service delivery; participate in supervision, meetings, training, and evidence-based treatment consultation; and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related clinical behavioral health field required.
• Two years of previous behavioral health crisis assessment, emergency services, acute care, or related crisis experience preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, risk-evaluation, safety-planning, crisis-intervention, stabilization, and level-of-care determination skills.
• Ability to apply evidence-based assessment tools, medical-necessity criteria, and sound clinical judgment when making time-sensitive treatment and disposition decisions.
• Excellent active-listening, interpersonal, empathy, engagement, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, organization, time-management, and electronic documentation skills.
• Ability to remain calm, focused, compassionate, and effective while working under pressure and responding to urgent, high-acuity, or rapidly changing situations.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and provide respectful, culturally responsive, recovery-oriented care to individuals and families from varied backgrounds.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation available during all working hours required.
• Ability to meet the assigned essential-staff schedule and physical requirements of the role, including sitting, standing, walking, and lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
