Responsibilities
- Provides clinical veterinary care
- Schedules and/or participates in an on-call, emergency care, weekend and holiday rotation as required to assure clinical veterinary coverage
- Actively manages and oversees clinical research involving rabbit and swine species with responsibilities that include developing and implementing procedures for pre and post-operative care, anesthesia, analgesia, and euthanasia, in addition to providing direct oversight of a surgical OR and related resources
- Serves as an alternate member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
- Serves as a faculty member within a veterinary postdoctoral training program in laboratory animal medicine with responsibilities including, but not limited to, participation in a didactic lecture series, participation in a journal review rotation, and clinical mentorship of veterinary postdoctoral fellows
- Helps to ensure NYU Langone Health’s program of veterinary care remains in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and meets AAALAC accreditation standards
- Collaboratively coordinates with departments within DCM, such as Operations and the DCM Business Office, in addition to departments outside of DCM, such as Environmental Health & Safety and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
- Provides surgical and technical support to investigators through training and animal model development
- Maintains familiarity with trends, issues, and advances in strategic and program planning through periodic review of relevant journals or other literature
- Identifies and actively pursues a planned program of professional growth through continuing education, etc.
Qualifications
- DVM/VMD/BVSc degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
- Three years of laboratory animal medicine experience within an ACLAM recognized laboratory animal medicine residency training program
- ACLAM board eligibility required
- ACLAM board certification preferred
