Clinical Trainer - Behavioral Health
Brief Description
The Clinical Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating training programs that support clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and staff competency across behavioral health services. This role ensures that clinical staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to provide high-quality, evidence-based care in alignment with organizational standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices.
Requirements
Education & Licensure: Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required. Active clinical licensure (e.g., LICSW, LPC, or equivalent) preferred or required based on organizational needs.
Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience in behavioral health. Experience in staff training, education, or supervision preferred. Experience with electronic health records and clinical documentation standards.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Strong knowledge of behavioral health treatment modalities and evidence-based practices. Understanding of regulatory and accreditation standards (CARF, Medicaid, CCBHC, etc.). Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills. Ability to translate complex clinical concepts into practical, applicable training. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Summary
Training Development & Delivery: Design, develop, and facilitate clinical training programs for new hires and existing staff. Deliver onboarding and ongoing education related to behavioral health practices, documentation, and service delivery. Provide training on evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, and person-centered approaches. Utilize a variety of training methods (in-person, virtual, e-learning, and experiential learning).
Clinical Competency & Support: Assess staff competency and identify training needs in collaboration with clinical leadership. Provide coaching and support to clinical staff to improve performance and adherence to standards. Assist in developing skill development plans related to clinical skills when needed. Support supervisors in reinforcing clinical expectations and best practices.
Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure all training content aligns with regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, state regulations, accreditation standards such as CARF/CCBHC). Maintain training records and documentation for compliance and audit readiness. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and incorporate findings into training programs. Stay current on changes in behavioral health regulations, treatment modalities, and best practices.
Systems & Technology: Utilize learning management systems (LMS) to assign, track, and report training completion. Train staff on electronic health record (EHR) systems and documentation standards. Develop training materials, job aids, and reference guides for clinical workflows.
Collaboration: Partner with clinical directors, supervisors, and HR to align training with organizational goals. Support implementation of new programs, services, or clinical initiatives through targeted training. Participate in interdisciplinary teams and organizational committees as needed.
