About the role

The Clinical Technician EMT provides direct patient care under the direction of a nurse and performs tasks essential to unit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, assist, reinforce, and deliver patient care based on unit acuity and staffing levels.
  • Receive reports from primary care partners and complete assignments in a timely, organized manner.
  • Instruct and reinforce appropriate patient care activities under the direction of licensed professionals.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and communicate changes to the care team.
  • Perform emergency measures, including CPR, when indicated.
  • Maintain annual competency in patient-specific procedures.
  • Document care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
  • Input accurate data into EKG machines and present findings to the primary care partner.
  • Perform phlebotomy, collect and label specimens (urine, blood, sputum, stool), and deliver them to the lab using Universal Precautions.
  • Apply orthopedic splints under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Physician, or Provider and document in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist with simple dressings using aseptic technique.
  • Accurately perform glucometer finger sticks and Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), including quality control.
  • Perform venipuncture following hospital protocol.
  • Provide post-mortem care.
  • Assist clinicians or public safety with restraint application for violent or combative patients when necessary.
  • Transport patients to other hospital areas as needed.
  • Act as a patient sitter for one-to-one observation when required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Valid Florida EMT or Paramedic licensure with acute care experience.
  • Orthopedic experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic computer skills: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, and input data.
