About the role
The clinical staff pharmacist will review and verify medication orders, make therapeutic recommendations, prepare and dispense medications, and provide medication information and clinical services to patients and healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Review and verify medication orders and make therapeutic recommendations.
- Prepare and dispense medications to inpatients and outpatients.
- Supply medication information and other clinical services to patients and other health care providers.
- Routinely round with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to patient care.
- Maintain clinical skills knowledge to cross-cover for other areas.
- Support clinical services/programs such as Pharmacokinetics, Automatic Renal Dosing, IV to PO Conversion Program, and pharmacist's order entry assessment.
- Monitor patient drug therapy for efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide drug information to physicians, staff, and co-workers.
- Promote rational and economic drug use through professional interactions with the medical staff and committees.
- Monitor the medication use process and report inconsistencies to improve medication safety.
- Document improvements in patient outcomes and cost containment efforts.
- Maintain a clinical pharmacy rotation for students/residents or assist other preceptors.
- Participate in performance improvement activities as assigned.
Requirements
- Pharm.D. or B.S. Degree required.
- Residency or hospital experience (3-5 years) preferred.
- Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama.
- Licenses eligible pharmacists must hold a Pharmacy Extern license issued by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy and pass the pharmacist licensing exams within 6 months of employment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations affecting the practice of pharmacy.
- Develops and maintains an area of clinical expertise.
- Operates computer, calculator, telephone, and other pharmaceutical equipment.
- Reads, writes, speaks, and comprehends English.
- Physical abilities to perform environmental exposures, physical activities, and meet physical presence onsite requirements.

- Positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues, and self.
- Use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
