About the Role

The Clinical Staff Leader is a direct supervisory leadership role and a key member of the Nursing leadership team. The CSL leads a cohort of staff members and actively participates in overall management of the unit, development of clinical practice, and provision of patient care. Accountabilities include implementation and outcomes for people leadership, quality, service, compliance, finance, throughput, and scheduling. The primary focus is ensuring the unit's optimal performance by engaging in effective problem-solving for staff, patients, and families, and developing/leading the assigned cohort. The CSL provides feedback and coaching to staff, fostering a high-performance culture while working under the guidance of the manager.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of their cohort and other staff as needed.
  • Defines standards for quality patient care.
  • Develops, manages, and evaluates the area based on work team performance.
  • Manages multiple projects and ongoing work activities (timelines, work plans, deliverables) while maintaining alignment with the strategic plan and vision.
  • Acts as a clinical leader and facilitates education for staff on clinical standards; routinely provides guidance and coaching to subordinates and peers within clinical specialty(ies).
  • Ensures clinical assignments are based on patient care needs and demonstrated staff competencies.

Technical Capabilities

  • Compliance (Novice): Explains and applies basic statutory instructions, understands principles behind rules, and escalates compliance issues effectively.
  • Clinical Expertise (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of patient care, including assessment, treatment, care planning, patient education, and evidence-based practice. Role models and coaches less experienced staff.
  • Operations Planning (Novice): Anticipates resource needs, sets priorities, schedules activities, meets deadlines, and organizes work. Handles multiple assignments and adapts to changes with minimal disruption.
  • People Management (Novice): Conducts performance reviews, delegates tasks, coaches subordinates, and demonstrates team-building techniques.
  • Quality Management (Novice): Analyzes and evaluates work processes for improvement, establishes and monitors quality standards, and works on enhancing business processes.
  • Business Results (Fundamental Awareness): Implements measures to attain business results, tracks progress, delivers products/services on time and within budget, and responds effectively to customer needs.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
