About the Role

This position is located at Avenal State Prison (ASP) in Avenal, CA (Kings County). The Clinical Social Worker (Health/CF) Safety operates under the general direction of the Senior Psychologist, Correctional Facility (CF) or the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker, CF. The role involves conducting assessments, summarizing case information for diagnosis and treatment, developing and modifying treatment plans in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, and providing group therapy and collateral conferences. The position also includes documenting and evaluating patient progress and coordinating placement with community resources and the Classification and Parole Representative.

Responsibilities

• Conduct assessments and summarize case information for use in diagnosis, treatment (level of care), and dispositional release.
• Diagnose and/or collaborate in the formulation of a diagnosis.
• Develop, monitor, and modify treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Provide assessments, group therapy, and collateral conferences.
• Document and evaluate patients’ progress in treatment.
• Coordinate placement with community resources and the Classification and Parole Representative.

Pay

The authorized hiring-above-minimum (HAM) rate for this classification is P $8,678 - Q $9,319 per month. Effective July 1, 2025, full-time employees will experience a 3% base salary reduction and receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027 as part of the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis.

Eligible individuals may receive a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment, as well as a monthly recruitment and retention differential during their first year (totaling $20,000). CDCR and CCHCS employees may also be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days.

Schedule

This is a Limited Term Position which may be extended or become permanent. Applications will be reviewed on a bi-weekly basis starting from February 13, 2026, through December 11, 2026.
