Position Summary

The Social Worker will provide psychosocial assessment/support and financial/insurance counseling under the direction of the Medical Director and Manager of Versiti's Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders (CCBD). They will be part of a comprehensive care team and assist in developing and providing education programs.

Responsibilities

  • Pychosocial Counseling and Support
    • Gathers and assesses data pertinent to psychosocial functioning of patients and families.
    • Provides supportive counseling and education to patients, families, and caregivers in various settings.
    • Maintains contacts within the bleeding disorders support community and acts as a resource for support groups, retreats, seminars, and educational programs.
    • Collaborates with the CCBD care team to develop and provide education programs.
  • Financial/Insurance Counseling
    • Provides sound financial and insurance counseling to CCBD patients and patient families.
    • Identifies potential life changes impacting financial and insurance status and takes appropriate action.
    • Maintains and updates insurance information on patients.
    • Ensures timely insurance verification and prior authorizations for factor products and other medications.
    • Troubleshoots insurance issues and assists with documentation for insurance and Medicaid/Medicare denials.
    • Affords home care patients enrollment in contingency insurance coverage and helps maintain eligibility for programs.
  • General Duties
    • Functions as part of a comprehensive team, provides cross coverage, and assists with process development and other initiatives.
    • Participates in continuous improvement and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborates with GLHF for PFA referrals, advocacy, and patient issues.
    • Maintains patient files and medical records or patient/pharmacy databases.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services or related degree required.
  • 4-6 years Master's degree level experience required, providing psychosocial services, mental health and/or family counseling, with strong preference for clinical or hospital setting.
  • 4-6 years Vocational/educational counseling to include collaborating with school officials and employers to help coordinate patient care.
  • 4-6 years Experience with public and private insurance counseling, obtaining prior authorizations for laboratory and medical tests, as well as medications.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Certified Social Worker (CSW) required.
