Clinical Shadower Program

Job Summary

The Clinical Shadower Program is designed for students to experience a value-based primary care setting with immersive, hands-on experience. This experience combines structured clinical rotations with shadowing to help students deepen their understanding of delivering high-quality, outcomes-focused care to senior populations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Participate in supervised clinical rotations across core areas of primary care.
• Observe patient education, outreach, and follow-up initiatives.
• Engage with interdisciplinary care teams to understand team-based care delivery.
• Shadow attending physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals during patient visits.
• Learn about clinical decision-making, care coordination, and communication strategies with senior patients.
• Attend team huddles, care planning meetings, and population health reviews.
• Gain exposure to the business and clinical drivers of value-based care models.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

• Understand the principles of value-based care and how they apply to primary care delivery.
• Develop patient communication and documentation skills in a real-world clinical setting.
• Observe evidence-based care practices aimed at improving outcomes for older adults.
• Learn the importance of team-based, coordinated care in managing chronic conditions.

This is an observership internship and does not involve unsupervised patient care. Shadowers must comply with all HIPAA, OSHA, and clinical site requirements. Specify onboarding requirements: background check, and drug test.

Education & Experience

• Currently enrolled or soon to be enrolled in an accredited medical school (MD or DO program) or nursing.
• Strong interest in primary care, geriatrics, or value-based healthcare.
• Excellent communication, professionalism, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a clinical team.

Required/Preferred Education Requirements:

• Education Level: Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Discipline: Relevant field of study.
• Required: Proof of enrollment from an academic institution.
• Required: HIPAA training.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs).
• Skills: Prior exposure to clinical or volunteer work in healthcare settings.
• Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand, sit, walk and occasionally climb.
• Physical demands include ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Conditions

• Must be able to perform essential functions such as typing, standing, sitting, stooping, and occasionally climbing.

Travel Required

Amount of expected travel: 0-25%

Flexibility to travel

To clinical sites as needed.

Tools & Equipment Used

• Computer and peripherals.
• Standard and customized software applications and tools.
• Usual office equipment.
