Clinical Services Supervisor, LVN

Under the direct supervision of the Health Center Manager and indirect clinical supervision of Nursing Administration, the Clinical Services Supervisor (CSS) performs licensed nursing duties within scope of practice, oversees back office clinical competency and performance, maintains and operates medical and laboratory equipment, and assists in the treatment and care of patients. The CSS collaborates with the Health Center Manager to manage the clinic’s productivity goals while maintaining high patient satisfaction, efficient, and quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in patient population management relating to clinical services while considering cultural diversities, sensitivities, and local resources.
  • Utilizes Evidence Based Practice guidelines to assist with disease management.
  • Prioritizes the management of patient flow in the clinic by ensuring patients are roomed and cared for in a timely manner.
  • Participates in rooming patients, taking vital signs, and providing patient treatment as directed by provider and within LVN scope of practice.
  • Performs, observes, and records symptoms and progress of the patient and reports findings to the provider; does not make independent medical decisions.
  • Administers medications and immunizations as directed by provider and within LVN scope of practice.
  • Coordinates with the Care Team (Primary Care Provider, Health Educator, Registered Dietitian, RN, Behavioral Health Provider, Director of Nursing, or Medical Director) to ensure appropriate services are arranged for the patient to meet care goals.
  • Educates patients/families, creates pre-visit checklists, and participates or directs team huddles.
  • Assists with patient/client follow-up appointments within recommended time frames.
  • Documents all care coordination activities in the medical record.
  • Tracks and compiles outstanding test and laboratory results required for examinations, visits, referrals, and follow-up.
  • Coordinates the notification process with support staff as recommended by healthcare providers.
  • Maintains and operates medical and laboratory equipment as necessary; may assist provider during treatment, examination, and/or testing of patients.
  • Collaborates with the Quality Improvement Department to comply with federal and state regulations and payer requirements.
  • Assists with various report tracking in designated software programs.
  • Performs clinic audits and maintains laboratory and medication management for state or federal regulatory compliance.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and ongoing nursing review meetings.
  • Assists internal or external consumers with problems, providing excellent customer service using AIDET Standards.
  • Demonstrates professionalism when calling patients and provides quality customer service in a high-volume environment with frequent changes or unexpected events.
  • Adheres to and observes all safety policies and procedures, including infection control rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, or geriatrics).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of domestic violence, child, and dependent abuse protocols.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competence with patients.
  • Adheres to Quality Improvement processes such as Meaningful Use, HEDIS, UDS, and regulatory compliance and company productivity.
  • Maintains and adheres to HIPAA, employee confidentiality, and privileged communications (patient, employee, and corporation).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides indirect clinical supervision of back office staff such as medical assistants under the authorization and supervision of a licensed Physician, Podiatrist, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Oversees Medical Assistant clinical competency and performance in collaboration with the Health Center Manager.
  • Mentors, teaches, and provides in-service training for back office staff.
  • Collaborates with the Health Center Manager to build schedules and coverage for clinic staffing needs.
  • Works with the Health Center Manager to ensure oversight or ordering of needed supplies and clinical equipment.
  • Ensures staff are versed and compliant with regulatory standards, including knowledge of California scope of practice for back office staff to ensure patient safety.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited LVN school.
  • Current LVN license issued by the State of California Board of Vocational Nursing.
  • Minimum two years of recent experience in ambulatory care preferred.
  • Current CPR (BLS-C) card required; must obtain within first 60 days of employment if not certified at time of hire.
  • Possession of current, valid, unrestricted California Driver's License (Class C).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients or employees.
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment in understanding and carrying out instructions in written or oral form.
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and keyboarding; proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Working knowledge of EHR required; competency in EHR system required.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check and drug screen upon hire.
  • Annual health examination; annual Tuberculosis skin test clearance or chest x-ray; proof of immunity to MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B; proof of Tdap vaccine; during flu season, must provide proof of influenza vaccine or a signed declination form (if declined, a flu mask is mandatory).

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques for patient transfers and assisting patients with walking, dressing, etc.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds of supplies.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasional risk of electrical shock.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment (e.g., office and clinic setting with computers, phones, and printers).
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible work schedule may include evenings/weekends and travel as needed.

Pay

$3,076.92 - $3,392.31 bi-weekly
