About the role

Join us to make a meaningful difference to patients’ lives. If your passion is Genomics and you want to be at the forefront of improving outcomes for patients, then there’s no better place to be. We are currently recruiting for dedicated individuals to join our growing team in the Genomics Central Laboratory at Leeds St James’s University Hospital, as Clinical Scientists. Our 160‑strong workforce at Leeds St James Hospital provides the Leeds Central Genomics Laboratory for the NEY Genomic Laboratory Hub, serving around 9 million patients regionally and bringing together genomic expertise across NHS Trusts in Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield. We also provide highly specialised tests for inherited cancers for the wider NHS. The Leeds Central Genomics laboratory delivers the high‑throughput Next Generation Sequencing facility for the GLH, based around NovaSeq, NextSeq550DX and Genexus platforms with associated technical and bioinformatics support, plus a broad spectrum of equipment and technologies to support a full genomic laboratory. Over £4 m has been invested in new and cutting‑edge equipment in the last four years. The laboratory works closely with the Translational Genomics Unit, a joint LTHT and University of Leeds team delivering research and service development, with a current focus on long‑read sequencing technologies for Rare Disease and Haemato‑Oncology services. With recent advances in genetics and new technologies, we are better positioned than ever to deliver effective diagnostic testing for inherited diseases and to facilitate a more targeted, personalised approach to cancer diagnostics and treatment.
