Clinical Research Nurse III - NIH/ NIAID
This position is located at the NIH Campus, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20892 USA. The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc., addressing urgent biomedical challenges in cancer, AIDS, drug development, nanotechnology, and infectious diseases.
About the Role
The Clinical Research Directorate (CRD) provides clinical supervision, quality assurance, and operational support for clinical research and trials. This includes patient care for clinical trial participants at the NIH Clinical Center, clinical trials management, regulation, pharmacovigilance, and protocol development. CRD supports initiatives for the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and other NIH institutes, focusing on diseases such as cancer, HIV, influenza, Ebola, COVID-19, and rare or neglected diseases.
Responsibilities
- Provides clinical support to an assigned caseload of research protocols, including but not limited to:
- Recruits patients for clinical protocols
- Facilitates the procurement of outside medical records and materials
- Coordinates research specimen procurement and processing
- Assists in the coordination and implementation of clinical trials
- Credentialed for the corresponding level of patient interaction required for the role
Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (or four years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- Current unencumbered professional license as a Registered Nurse (RN) from any U.S. state
- Minimum of five years of recent nursing/clinical experience
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment
- CPR certified or certifiable
- Highly effective planning, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational, computer, and communication skills
- Working knowledge of biological principles, scientific methods, and ICH/GCP guidelines
- Understanding of clinical research concepts, ethics, processes, and protocol implementation
- Ability to work on-site at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD during regular clinic hours (Monday–Friday, excluding Federal holidays). Ad hoc telework available as determined by clinical and protocol needs
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior clinical research and clinical trial experience, including data collection, data management, and study documentation
- Experience conducting telephone-based participant assessments and follow-up, including documentation and communication of findings
- Proficiency using electronic research and clinical systems (e.g., iMED, REDCap, Microsoft Office applications)
Job Hazards
- Subject to atmospheric conditions requiring respirator usage and medical clearance
- Potential exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations
Pay
Competitive compensation within the range of $84,500.00 – $121,124.00 USD. The posted range is a general guideline and not a guarantee; actual compensation varies based on job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market alignment. The salary range reflects full-time equivalent pay and may vary for part-time positions.
