About the role

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (I.AIM) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time Clinical Research Associate to manage and contribute to a research portfolio in the areas of artificial intelligence and cardiovascular disease.

Responsibilities

  • Managing day-to-day operations of projects within the Implementation Intelligence Lab, including coordinating interdisciplinary research teams with internal and external collaborators, tracking deliverables, and supervising research staff and trainees.
  • Conducting study procedures (e.g., leading semi-structured interviews and co-design workshops).
  • Making substantial contributions to the scientific work of the Implementation Intelligence Lab (i.e., conception and design of projects; acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of data; drafting and revising manuscripts, communicating results to multidisciplinary stakeholders).
  • Assisting the Principal Investigator, in collaboration with the Research Administrator, to prepare extramural funding support applications and manage the administration of already funded sponsored research projects.
  • Developing the operational and clinical research skills of the team (e.g., writing standard operating procedures for the lab, identifying didactic and experiential development opportunities for research staff, providing guidance on project management and compliance with institutional requirements).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in public health, health services research, health informatics, health care quality and safety, clinical research, or a related field.
  • Able to formulate research problems, design experiments, and implement solutions.
  • A strong and/or developing record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience managing human subjects research studies, including IRB protocol development and submissions, end-to-end study coordination, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of findings.
  • Personnel management experience, such as supervision of other research staff, students, or trainees.
  • Experience with REDCap, electronic health records, statistical analysis software, and reference management software.
  • Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, compassion, creativity, and kindness.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge technical, clinical, operational, and lay audiences.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Nice to have

  • Experience working on research or quality improvement projects implemented in real-world clinical settings.
  • Content knowledge related to AI, digital health, clinical decision support, implementation science, human-centered design, and/or cardiology.
  • Experience contributing to extramural funding support applications.
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured health data (e.g., clinical notes, imaging, electrocardiograms).
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software, R, Git, Docker, and Microsoft Azure.
