About the role

The Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) II manages individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients’ health in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. This nurse collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members in the development, execution, and evaluation of the multidisciplinary plan of care, assumes a full patient assignment, and plans, analyzes, intervenes, and sets goals for patient care accordingly. The RN maintains a safe care environment and delivers quality care within the scope defined by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Assessment: Conducts individualized and ongoing patient assessments, prioritizing data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition and established policies; reprioritizes care as needed and integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care.
• Planning: Develops, modifies, and integrates an individualized care plan that incorporates the medical plan of care, key elements from other disciplines, and standards of care; establishes measurable patient goals in consultation with the patient, family, and health care team.
• Intervention: Performs treatments and therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered or established; recognizes urgent/emergent risks and initiates appropriate resuscitative measures; manages care for specialty patient populations in a non-judgmental, culturally sensitive manner; collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure appropriate interventions.
• Evaluation: Evaluates patient responses to care and initiates changes to the interdisciplinary care plan as indicated; problem-solves with the specialty team to improve outcomes; documents assessment findings, responses to interventions, and progress toward goals.
• Patient Education: Identifies learning needs of patients and families, adapts teaching accordingly, and ensures demonstration of knowledge within the patient’s abilities; communicates with patients and families to include them in the plan of care and acknowledges their treatment preferences.
• Self and Peer Learning: Assesses and meets own learning and professional development needs; maintains current competency in the nursing specialty and department requirements; attends required and additional educational programs; seeks clinical development opportunities and may function in a charge nurse role.
• Collaboration: Makes sound judgments in coordinating multiple, increasingly complex patient care demands; supervises delegated care based on staff abilities and patient acuity; reports changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel.
• Service Recovery: Participates in service recovery, uses appropriate resources during complex situations, and handles conflict resolution in an appropriate, timely, and consistent manner.
• Resource Utilization and Stewardship: Supports organizational efforts regarding appropriate resource use; serves as a preceptor/mentor; assists in orientation, instruction, direction, and evaluation of staff and students; may be trained for or currently functions in a charge nurse role.
• Improvement Activities: Participates in data collection for quality assurance; identifies and communicates recurring practice concerns; engages in initiatives tied to nurse-sensitive, quality, and unit-based metrics; demonstrates utilization of Centra’s safety behaviors.
• Research/Evidence Based Practice/Quality Improvement Projects: May participate in research or evidence-based practice projects; communicates findings to peers; interprets quality improvement data relevant to the clinical specialty and contributes to methods to improve care in areas identified as deficient.
• Ethics: Maintains confidentiality per Centra policies; delivers care that protects patient autonomy, dignity, and rights; serves as a patient advocate; maintains professional role boundaries in patient-nurse relationships.
• Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Registration as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia and/or holds a compact license to practice in Virginia.
• Basic Life Support certification.
• Additional specialty certifications as required:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support: Cath Lab/Electrophysiology, Operating Room, Critical Care (All), Endoscopy, PACU, Interventional Radiology, Birth Center, Centra Specialty Hospital, Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery, Plastic Surgery.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support: Pediatrics.
  • Advanced and Pediatric Advanced Life Support: Emergency Department.
• One year of nursing (RN) experience.

Pay

$32.92 – $51.02 per hour.
