About the role

The Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) II manages individualized patient care in a Medical Surgical Trauma Unit accredited by MBSAQIP and MBQA. The unit treats a variety of cases including bowel obstructions, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, wound management, stable trauma, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, bariatric weight loss surgery, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical - Assessment: Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing data collection based on patient needs. Integrates nursing interventions into the multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Clinical - Planning: Develops, modifies, and integrates an individualized care plan, establishing measurable patient goals.
  • Clinical - Intervention: Performs treatments and therapeutic nursing interventions, recognizing and responding to potential problems, and initiating emergency resuscitative measures.
  • Clinical - Evaluation: Evaluates patient responses, initiates changes in the care plan, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes.
  • Clinical - Patient Education: Identifies learning needs and teaches patients and families, ensuring they demonstrate knowledge of their care.
  • Self and Peer Learning: Assumes responsibility for personal learning and development, maintaining current competency in nursing specialty and requirements for the department.
  • Clinical Leadership: Supervises delegated care, reports changes in patient condition, and participates in service recovery and conflict resolution.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing, at least one year of nursing (RN) experience, registration as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Basic Life Support certification.
  • PREFERRED: Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BSN).
  • Additional Specialty Requirements: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications may be required based on department and unit standards.
