About the Role
Central State Hospital is recruiting for a Clinical Psychologist to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to supporting the wellness and safety of individuals and their communities throughout the Commonwealth. This position provides comprehensive psychological assessment, treatment, consultation, and forensic evaluation services to individuals receiving inpatient behavioral health care.
Responsibilities
- Conducting admission, annual, suicide risk, and court-related psychological evaluations
- Providing individual therapy, competency restoration, supportive counseling, and psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) group services
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary treatment teams to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans
- Developing and monitoring behavioral intervention strategies
- Providing consultation and training to clinical and direct care staff
- Maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation that meets departmental and regulatory standards
- Demonstrating a commitment to evidence-based, recovery-oriented, person-centered care
Requirements
- Requires knowledge of psychological/therapeutic theory and evidence-based practices
- Requires experience providing psychological services including treatment planning, assessment, and individual/group therapy with adults with serious mental illness
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work as a collaborative team member
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist by the Virginia Board of Psychology
- Experience providing mental health services to clients with severe mental illness required

Pay
Hiring Range: $102,726.00 - $141,762.00; Salary to Commensurate with Experience.
