Clinical Psychologist-BH - Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital - Full Time - Day Shift

Shift start and end times are variable. This is an 8-hour, 40-hour-per-week position with no weekend or on-call requirements.

Pay

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position: $57.740 – $74.490 – $83.440 per hour. Actual pay rate and pay grade will depend on years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychological and diagnostic assessments and evidence-based treatment for mood, anxiety, thought, neurocognitive, intellectual, and personality disorders, as well as behavior problems.
• Provide empirically-supported treatments, demonstrating competence in group, individual, and family therapy.
• Serve as a consultant for the milieu program, assisting in the development and implementation of new programs as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Develop and provide staff training to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
• Provide specialized clinical training and supervision/mentorship for psychology trainees per APA, APPIC, and BOP guidelines.
• Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Collaborate with clinical supervisors and interdisciplinary teams to develop competency and acquire technical skills.
• Communicate patient safety issues (e.g., suspected abuse, possible Tarasoff reporting, suicidality, clinical or ethical concerns) to appropriate supervisors in a timely manner.
• Attend and actively participate in required treatment team meetings and clinical supervision.
• Communicate with healthcare team members, court officers, conservator’s office, and/or patient advocates to expedite patient progress while upholding patient rights and facility safety.
• Maintain ongoing communication with multidisciplinary team members regarding patient status and follow-up.
• Consult with team members in the development of treatment plans and attend treatment team meetings, in-services, and case presentations.
• Arrange and facilitate patient care conferences for difficult or high-risk psychosocial cases.
• Identify bioethical dilemmas and initiate appropriate responses.
• Testify at Certification Review and Reise hearings regarding patient’s current mental health status as appropriate.
• Consult, coordinate, and intervene in crisis situations, assisting staff in de-escalating volatile situations and facilitating Code Green and critical incident debriefings.
• Develop interdisciplinary education to increase staff knowledge.
• Seek and develop performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
• Utilize appropriate processes or tools to document identified problems and initiate problem-solving plans.
• Promote quality outcomes in complex, new, or high-risk clinical situations, collaborating or seeking additional resources as needed.
• Apply psychological principles to directly improve outcomes as assessed by patients, families, physicians, and staff.
• Assist with matching therapeutic interventions with individual patient’s developmental and psychosocial needs.
• Provide individual, group, and family treatment tailored to patient needs using current methods and techniques.
• Complete formal psychosocial and/or psychological evaluations, including conducting, interpreting, and supervising psychological/diagnostic assessments.
• Collaborate with the treatment team and patient to develop quantitative and evidence-based treatment plans.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care by developing collaborative relationships with team members.
• Provide interdisciplinary team leadership and direction in conceptualizing complicated cases.
• Provide effective consultation on a broad range of topics to interdisciplinary team members.
• Assume a leadership role in interdisciplinary conferences by initiating and facilitating communication.
• Consult with other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
• Provide and/or facilitate formal/informal staff education on psychosocial issues such as diagnosis, treatment plans, developmental issues, and crisis intervention.
• Serve as a hospital representative at presentations, speaking requests, and media events, acting as a resource to the community.
• Design, develop, and maintain quality programs for patients and staff, monitoring effectiveness in collaboration with unit leadership.
• Demonstrate independent ability to identify and implement relevant program evaluation approaches.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to establish and sustain high-quality programs for psychiatric patient populations.
• Evaluate patient outcomes and use results to inform ongoing program development.
• Provide supervision to psychology trainees and consultative supervision to BHS staff to ensure quality professional development and services.
• Serve as a clinical supervisor for psychology practicum students, interns, and/or fellows.
• Provide didactic training, modeling, and consultation to BHS staff to enhance individualized patient care.

Requirements

• Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or PsyD from an APA-accredited doctoral program in psychology, or an Ed.D from a doctoral program in Psychology.
• 1 year of experience (pre- or post-licensure) in a psychiatric treatment setting.
• Leadership experience.
• Experience in program development and evaluation.
• California Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) – CA Board of Psychology (REQUIRED).
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – American Heart Association (REQUIRED).

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of an APA doctoral internship in clinical psychology.
• Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in a relevant specialty area such as severe mental illness, trauma, psychosocial rehabilitation, or cognitive behavior therapy.
• Experience supervising or training psychology students, interns, or fellows.
