Clinical Psychologist

Fort Cavazos is located in the 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove, approximately 60 miles north of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The installation spans 214,968 acres and is the largest active-duty armored post in the U.S. Armed Forces, capable of training two Armored Divisions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychological assessments of patients with a wide variety of psychological disorders affecting intellectual, cognitive, behavioral, or emotional function.
• Develop, monitor, approve, and document clinical treatment plans and clinical records in a timely fashion.
• Oversee, administer, and interpret psychological testing, including maintaining and securing test instruments and raw testing data.
• Conduct individual and group therapy, psychoeducational sessions, and psychotherapeutic interventions.
• Provide expert oversight of training in diagnosis and treatment to certified and intern counselors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation may be required.
• This position may require interaction with children and youth under 18, necessitating specific background checks.
• Selectees may be required to consent to seasonal influenza vaccinations or provide a recognized exemption.
• This position may be a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
• Immunization screening may be required, including Hepatitis B for positions with direct patient contact.
• May be required to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross.
• Applicants must fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
• May require tuberculosis testing.
• May include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays), rotating shifts, irregular work hours, on-call duties, and work during weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.
• One year of specialized experience performing psychological evaluations, developing behavioral health treatment plans, and providing psychological counseling services at the GS-12 level or equivalent.
• Current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, issued by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction.

Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs to ensure equivalency to a U.S. accredited program. More information.
