Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor phlebotomy students during their assigned clinical rotations.
- Provide hands-on instruction in proper phlebotomy techniques, infection control, specimen collection, patient identification, safety practices, and professional communication.
- Evaluate student performance through observation, coaching, and constructive feedback.
- Complete required student competency evaluations, attendance records, and performance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Verify that students achieve required clinical competencies and procedure requirements established by US Colleges.
- Encourage professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and ethical behavior in the clinical setting.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success.
- Communicate regularly with the Director of Externship and Director of Education regarding student progress, concerns, attendance issues, or performance deficiencies.
- Immediately report any safety concerns, policy violations, or incidents involving students to the appropriate clinical supervisor and US Colleges representative.
- Orient students to the clinical facility, including workflow, safety procedures, emergency protocols, and departmental expectations.
- Serve as a professional role model by demonstrating excellent patient care, customer service, communication, and professionalism.
- Maintain compliance with all facility policies, HIPAA regulations, OSHA standards, and US Colleges requirements.
- Participate in preceptor training, meetings, and educational updates as requested.
- Perform other duties related to student supervision as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent credential, as required by state regulations.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture, capillary collection, specimen handling, and patient care.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to evaluate student performance objectively and provide constructive feedback.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare staff and students.
- Strong clinical judgment and technical expertise.
- Effective interpersonal and coaching skills.
- Excellent organizational and documentation abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Ability to foster an inclusive, respectful, and positive learning environment.
