Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner - Oncology

About the Role

This position is for a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist (Oncology) at the GS-13 level within the Veterans Health Administration in Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities

• Persuade and influence clinical and management decisions through oral and written communication.
• Maintain expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for the oncology program area.
• Solve problems, coordinate, and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in oncology or clinical pharmacy expertise.
• Apply expert knowledge in a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice, specifically oncology.
• Monitor and assess the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic parameters.
• Document in the computerized patient record and verbally communicate with patients, colleagues, supervisors, and community partners.
• Be independently mobile throughout the medical center as needed.

Requirements

• Citizenship: United States citizenship is required. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
• Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Must maintain current registration if required for licensure. Pharmacists with revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or probationary licenses may only be appointed in accordance with VA Handbook 5005.
• Exception: Non-licensed pharmacists who meet eligibility requirements may receive a temporary appointment as a Graduate Pharmacist under 38 U.S.C. 7405(c)(2)(B). Licensure may be waived for up to 2 years for pharmacists providing care under supervision.
• Grade Determinations: For GS-13, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12).
• Grandfathering Provision: Applicable only to current VHA employees who meet the criteria described in the VA Qualification Standard.

Qualifications

• Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing drug therapy outcomes, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory/diagnostic parameters.
• Expert knowledge of clinical pharmacy practice or a specialty area, specifically oncology.
• Ability to coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in the program area.

Preferred Experience

• 3 years of clinical oncology experience and/or completion of a PGY2 Oncology residency training.

Physical Requirements

• Independently mobile throughout the medical center.
• Significant time spent reading (charts, reports), documenting in electronic records, and verbal communication.
• Standing (4 hours), walking (4 hours), and lifting or carrying moderately heavy items may be required.
• Capable of using both hands and fingers, hearing (with or without aids), distinguishing colors, and having correctable vision.
