About the role
This is a full-time overnight shift position, 8:30 pm – 7:00 am, working 7 days on followed by 7 days off. Our Clinical Pharmacists provide general clinical and operational pharmacy services, including supervision of technical staff, with a strong commitment to service, safety, and professionalism to ensure the best patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and accurately transcribe medication orders into the pharmacy computer system
- Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals accurately
- Monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug–drug and drug–food interactions, allergies, and dose appropriateness
- Recommend cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff
- Sustain the hospital formulary by minimizing nonformulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges, and promoting rational drug therapy selection
- Provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients
- Assist with antimicrobial management and other clinical programs
- Document all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely
- Complete notification reports for medication errors and adverse drug reactions
- Participate in training new pharmacists, pharmacy students, and technicians
- Maintain professional competency to meet current and future facility needs
- Apply knowledge of the patient population in daily care
- Provide basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems
- Supervise pharmacy operations and support the pharmacy team
- Work on-site in patient care areas to interact with medical staff, nurses, and other healthcare team members
- Proactively intervene in conflicts between pharmacy and medical staff regarding drug therapy issues
- Comply with all regulatory standards
- Prioritize work and lead others to meet facility medication turn-around time policies
- Identify opportunities for improved efficiency
- Supervise and assist pharmacy technicians and support staff effectively
- Act as supervisor in charge when assigned
- Participate in continuous quality improvement of pharmacy operations (operational and clinical)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy
- Active Pharmacist license in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
- Minimum of 1 year of hospital pharmacy experience preferred
