About the role

The Clinical Pharmacist II position is at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, serving central and downtown San Diego. This is a Full Time Benefited position with 4 - 10-hour varied shifts, including rotating weekends, at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to perform competencies and prescriptive authorities as approved by the medical staff.
  • Participates in direct patient care with patient care teams.
  • Performs all clinical pharmacy activities and oversees clinical activities of clinical pharmacists in training.
  • Rounds with the medical team and provides patient care interventions.
  • Precepting students and/or residents as appropriate.
  • Reviews and evaluates individual drug orders for appropriateness, safety, and cost.
  • Documents the care provided to patients.
  • Supervises the drug distribution operation: responsible for assuring safe and effective alternatives as appropriate.
  • Routinely communicates with physicians, nurses and patients regarding drug therapy.
  • Contributes to the accomplishment of initiatives to improve the cost-effectiveness of drug therapy.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide age-specific patient care as established for area and job title.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform competencies and perform activities as outlined in Pharmacist Authorities policy.

Requirements

  • BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D. Degree Required.
  • Certification/Registration: California Pharmacist License.
  • AHA BLS for the health care provider and ACLS certifications required prior to being trained to respond to codes.
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) or other nationally recognized certification required within 2 years' of hire.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a multi-site health system pharmacy enterprise.
  • Teaching certificate and/or experience precepting students and/or residents.
  • PGY1 residency or 3 years' experience in relevant practice area preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to perform clinical pharmacy activities.
  • Ability to review and evaluate drug orders.
  • Ability to communicate with physicians, nurses, and patients.
  • Ability to supervise drug distribution operations.
  • Ability to provide age-specific patient care.
  • Ability to perform competencies and activities as outlined in Pharmacist Authorities policy.

Pay

Position Pay Range: $80.00-$102.40/hour.
