Department
The Department of Perfusion at Bayside Health Alfred provides a comprehensive, state‑of‑the‑art perfusion service in the treatment of cardiac and respiratory diseases. It works in close collaboration with the Directorate of Alfred Heart & Lung (Department of Cardiothoracic & Transplantation, Department of Cardiology and Department of Respiratory Medicine) as well as with the Intensive Care and Emergency Departments. Involvement in clinical research and development projects further complements the departmental workload.
Position Summary
The Clinical Perfusionist (Grade 3, TR25‑TR27) is responsible for the conduct of total‑body perfusion and its associated life‑support techniques within the Cardiac Services at Alfred Hospital. A Clinical Perfusionist is a qualified professional trained and experienced in the physiology, pharmacology, technology and operation of extracorporeal perfusion equipment used to support or temporarily replace a patient’s cardiopulmonary or circulatory function.
Qualifications and Experience
- Eligibility for membership of the Australia New Zealand College of Perfusionists, requiring a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science, or recognised equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi‑disciplinary team in an often‑challenging environment, demonstrating initiative, strength of character and facilitative qualities.
- Applicants must possess or be eligible for a Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Perfusion.
- Familiarity with ECMO, Impellar, IABP & VAD is desirable.
- Familiarity with XVIVO Heart Assist Transport systems is desirable.
- Recent practice with Quantum HLM and Quantum system components is desirable.
