The Duke Raleigh MSCC Clinical Nurse Specialist works at Duke Raleigh Hospital, a campus of Duke University Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. With 204 beds, it is the third largest of the four Duke Health hospitals and offers a wide range of services including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care.

Responsibilities

• Coaches and supports the education of nurses and other healthcare providers.
• Mentors health professionals in applying the principles of evidence-based care.
• Facilitates communication and collaboration within and across units and services.
• Serves as a clinical resource and consultant to nurses, physicians, and other team members.
• Collaborates to build effective interdisciplinary relationships to support coordinated, high-quality care.
• Partners with leaders to develop innovative and cost-effective care models and programs.
• Promotes a culture of clinical inquiry, continuous learning, and evidence-based care.
• Evaluates and translates research and best practices into clinical application across the system.
• Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice, guidelines, policies, and protocols.
• Provides leadership in the system-wide implementation of quality improvement and innovation.
• Leads initiatives that promote excellence in clinical practice and professional nursing standards.
• Advances nursing practice through leadership, ethical decision-making, and continuous professional growth.
• Supports the development of standards, policies, and care protocols to ensure high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care.
• Conducts comprehensive patient assessments and applies advanced clinical judgment to plan and evaluate care.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-based interventions to improve patient outcomes.
• Prescribes nursing therapeutics, interventions, diagnostic measures, equipment, procedures, and treatments to meet the needs of patients, families, and groups.
• Coordinates transitions of care using system and community resources to optimize outcomes.
• Provides education and counseling to patients and families to promote understanding and engagement in care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited MSN or DNP Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist program.
• Current unrestricted RN license issued by or recognized by the North Carolina BON with recognition to practice as a CNS in the state of North Carolina.
• Certification in Adult-Gerontology (AGCNS-BC, ACCNS-AG, or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years of RN clinical experience is required. Critical care and/or emergency nursing experience preferred.
