About the Role

Directs and supervises a group of employees engaged in similar functions and oversees a major organization-wide work process. Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures. Translates overall objectives set by higher management into individual and collective objectives for subordinates and develops plans for accomplishing them. Provides training and communicates information from higher management to employees. Assists the Director and the Vice President of Patient-Care Services in managing 24-hour responsibility for the operation of assigned areas.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes objectives with plans of action pertinent to area of responsibility in support of the system’s strategic plan.
  • Directs, organizes, delegates, and performs personnel functions including interviewing, hiring, evaluating performance, coaching, and disciplining employees.
  • Assists with the preparation of operational and capital budgets and continually manages financial resources to obtain maximum performance.
  • Evaluates staffing and scheduling to ensure uninterrupted services and supports changes in services and patient care demands.
  • Approves purchase of supplies for the department; supervises maintenance activities and quality control procedures for equipment.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other system staff to resolve problems and promotes harmonious relationships within the system.
  • Reviews policies, procedures, and standards regularly to ensure compliance with professional organization standards and regulatory agencies.
  • Serves as a role model and provides support for staff in executing their functions; consults with them on policy interpretation.
  • Evaluates technical activities, environmental conditions, and overall department functions.
  • Contributes to and supports programs of education for departmental staff, medical, and other staff development.
  • Supervises clerical and administrative functions of the department, including required record systems for internal control and system-wide functions.
  • Continually seeks opportunities to improve the performance of work processes.
  • Implements the Case Management concept.
  • During staffing shortages or periods of unusually high patient census or acuity, may perform duties as a staff RN (see RN job description).
  • Attends system meetings and external agency/organization activities as assigned.
  • Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Manual.
  • Responds to Shore Health System codes: Code Pink, Code D, Code Red (in their area), Code Green (in their area), Code Blue (in their area).
  • Maintains privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information, disclosing only what is necessary for job functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing.
  • BSN required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related clinical experience compatible with the area(s) of responsibility.
  • Two years of decentralized management experience preferred.
  • Certification in nursing specialty and/or nursing administration preferred.
  • Must meet specific departmental certification requirements.

Pay

Pay Range: $54.42–$81.64 per hour (based on years of experience).

Schedule

Full-Time; Days (Exempt) - Behavioral Health (8:00 AM–4:30 PM).
