The Clinical Nurse Manager in a hospital plays a pivotal role in leading nursing staff within psychiatric or behavioral health units. Their responsibilities blend clinical expertise, administrative leadership, and strategic oversight to ensure high-quality mental health care.
Responsibilities
- Oversee psychiatric nursing care delivery.
- Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices and safety protocols.
- Monitor patient outcomes and adjust care plans as needed.
- Recruit, train, and supervise psychiatric nurses and support staff.
- Schedule shifts, manage workloads, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Foster a supportive and trauma-informed work environment.
- Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.
- Manage budgets, resources, and documentation systems.
- Lead or participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
- Monitor safety protocols and therapeutic milieu standards.
- Address patient, family, and staff feedback to improve care delivery.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and care planning.
- Collaborate with community mental health organizations.
- Advocate for mental health awareness and patient rights.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
- Registered Nurse license in the state of Louisiana required.
- 5 years experience in Psychiatric nursing and prior management experience required.
- MSN or related advanced degree preferred.
- Psychiatric nursing certification is a plus.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology and mental health disorders.
