CLINICAL NURSE ll - RECOVERY ROOM NURSING

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and the National Nurses Organizing Committee. Pursuant to the agreement, Cook County will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants.

About the role

The Clinical Nurse II is a professional care provider responsible and accountable for the overall management of patient care on a specific shift, maintaining comprehensive knowledge of patients’ conditions. Provides safe, effective, and individualized care using the nursing process. Performance of these duties requires skills, effective working relationships, setting priorities, and demonstrated knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensures completion of admission and ongoing patient assessment, collecting data on biophysical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual values, environmental, self-care capabilities, infection control, learning needs, and ability to manage continuing care needs after discharge.
• Performs reassessments according to divisional/unit standards and patient care needs, including transfer assessments when patients are moved in or out of the unit.
• Formulates and communicates an individualized plan of care derived from assessment data, utilizing age-specific plans consistent with therapies of other disciplines and standards of nursing practice.
• Involves patient/significant others and collaborates with other healthcare team members in planning nursing care.
• Ensures implementation of the nursing plan of care, performing interventions competently and safely, evaluating and modifying responses as needed.
• Provides education to patient and family based on assessed learning needs and ensures accurate, comprehensive documentation.
• Adheres to principles of Infection Control and Environment of Care, demonstrating competence in the safe and effective use of clinical equipment.
• Evaluates effectiveness of the plan of care and revises interventions as appropriate.
• Demonstrates leadership in making patient care/staff assignments, identifying staffing needs, and resolving patient care problems in a timely manner.
• Facilitates timely admission and discharge of patients, coordinates team/unit care activities, and promotes teamwork and effective interpersonal relationships.
• Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities, unit policy/procedure development, unit rounds, patient care team conferences, CPR/Fire drills, and monitoring unit statistical reports.
• Assists in maintaining adequate supplies, medication, and equipment, and demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights and ethical/legal issues.
• Acts as a resource nurse/preceptor, facilitates staff attendance at educational activities, and maintains required certifications.
• Seeks opportunities to improve professional knowledge and skills, reports unusual occurrences accurately, and renews professional license in a timely manner.
• Attends safety, infection control, and in-service training, and maintains BLS certification annually.
• Demonstrates punctuality, good attendance, and adherence to dress code.
• Performs specific duties of a Preferred Health Care Provider in Pre-Op Holding & PACU.

Requirements

• Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois (proof required at time of interview).
• Five (5) years of nursing experience in an acute care or hospital setting.
• One (1) year of CNI experience, including Charge Nurse responsibilities in PACU/Same Day Surgery.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (proof required at time of interview).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (proof required at time of interview).
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (proof required at time of interview).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Two (2) years of critical care experience.
• Certification in Perianesthesia or Critical Care Nursing.

• Ability to operate clinical equipment safely and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Ability to apply principles of Environment of Care and Infection Control.
• Physical ability to bend, lift, pull, and push up to thirty-five (35) pounds, walk, stand for prolonged periods (up to twelve hours), use both legs, hands, and fingers.
• Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses), ability to distinguish basic colors and shades.
• Normal hearing (with or without assistive device).
• Ability to tolerate protracted or irregular hours, unpleasant noise, and extreme temperature fluctuations.

Pay

Pay Range: $40.251 - $54.550 per hour. Salary is commensurate with years of experience indicated at the time of application submittal.

Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Provident Hospital of Cook County, Recovery Room Nursing Department.

Physical and Environmental Demands

This position functions within a healthcare environment. The incumbent must adhere to all hospital and department-specific safety requirements, including complying with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, hand hygiene practices, and department-specific engineering and work practice controls. Exposure to unpleasant noise and extreme temperature fluctuations may occur.
