About the role

The Clinical Nurse in the Adult Cardiac Cath Lab is responsible for assessing, coordinating, planning, directing, implementing, and managing the needs of assigned patients throughout their care episode, including during transitions within the acute care stay. The role involves delivering and coordinating patient care provided by the caregiving team, ensuring competent and compassionate care, and performing a variety of tasks including administering medications, starting IVs, and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Implements physician orders, administers medications, starts IVs, performs treatments, procedures, and special tests, and documents treatment as required by company policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' conditions.
  • Affords sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Administers over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered.
  • Collaborates with the nursing team to create a Plan of Care for all patients.
  • Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintains standards of professional nursing.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a professional academic nursing program in which a Diploma, Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree is conferred.
  • Must hold current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Obtains and maintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of clinical RN experience is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Telemetry or ICU experience is required.
  • Possesses knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools and techniques and demonstrates ability to apply in support of departmental and patient care quality improvement.

  • Use of Temporary Pacing via Zoll and Temp Pacing Box Swan Management
  • Ability to learn other roles including monitoring, circulating, and scrubbing.
  • Learns complex procedures including structural heart, complex percutaneous coronary intervention, complete total occlusion, renal denervation, angiovac and alphavac, myocardial biopsy, and pediatric Cath cases.
