Clinical Nurse II: CCU

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for assigned patients in a critical care unit (Neuro ICU, CCU, Sub ICU).
• Collaborate with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure safe, timely, and appropriate quality patient care.
• Perform physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, and address nutritional, teaching, and discharge needs of assigned patients.
• Utilize the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs.
• Evaluate and adjust the nursing care process as necessary, consulting with appropriate resource personnel for ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions.
• Maintain a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in Hoag Committee/Council with at least 50% attendance.
• Communicate quarterly to UPC (Unit Practice Council) on committee/council work.
• Complete three supplemental activities per year.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse license in the State of California – current and in good standing.
• Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
• ACLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
• Successful completion of an ECG test (required for units with telemetry monitoring).
• One year of nursing experience required.
• BSN required for Clinical Nurse II's at Magnet designated facilities (must start BSN program within one year of hire and attain degree within two years of starting the program). BSN preferred.

Qualifications by Department

• CCU:
  • Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency prior to clinical rotation.
  • Critical Care and Open Heart experience preferred.
  • Fulfill mandatory stroke education requirements per certification.
  • Certifications Preferred: IABP, CRT Certification, CCRN Certification.
• ICU:
  • Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency prior to clinical rotation.
  • Critical Care experience preferred.
  • Fulfill mandatory stroke education requirements per certification.
• Neuro ICU:
  • Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency prior to clinical rotation.
  • NIHSS certification required.
  • Complete series of six (6) neuroscience classes within one (1) year of hire.
  • Certifications Preferred: CCRN, CNRN, and/or SCRN.
• Irvine ICU:
  • NIHSS required upon hire.
• Sub ICU:
  • Successful completion of an ECG course or equivalency required.
  • Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency prior to clinical rotation.
  • Previous Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive, or Critical Care experience preferred.
  • Previous sheath pull, fem-stop, and closure device experience preferred.
  • Certifications Preferred: PCCN and/or CCRN.
• Surgical Neuro ICU:
  • Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency prior to clinical rotation.
  • Critical Care experience preferred.
