Clinical Nurse II

About the Role

This role is designed for nurses with more than 12 months of experience. The nurse will use this time to learn the institution and nursing practice, successfully meeting all requirements of the Nurse Residency Program and Departmental Orientation.

Utilizes the institution’s care delivery and professional practice models as the framework for practicing as a professional nurse. Participates in activities to develop own practice and supports group practice goals at the unit level. Is accountable to patients, families, and team members for care provided, and to the nurse manager for overall work performance. Upholds the Service Standards and the Nursing Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Practice/Care Delivery:
  • Focuses on clinical practice and personal learning.
  • Uses and applies evidence-based practice, accessing appropriate resources.
  • Follows unit-based protocols, documentation, and pathways.
  • Involves patient and family in care, adhering to care delivery model guidelines.
  • Conducts patient/family needs assessments; initiates and documents education, seeking guidance for advocacy when appropriate.
  • Delivers care consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered care.
• Professional Development:
  • Accesses education applicable to professional growth; completes competencies for the patient care setting.
  • Successfully completes orientation and maintains requirements for unit practice.
  • Assists with precepting students, unlicensed assistive personnel, or peers for isolated days (not accountable for entire orientation).
  • Completes continuing education (CE) credits annually based on facility minimum requirements.
• Service/Quality:
  • Becomes familiar with National Hospital Quality Measures, National Patient Safety Goals, Quality Indicators, Nursing Sensitive Indicators, and the Facility Annual Operating Plan.
  • Aware of patient and team member satisfaction scores; contributes to unit initiatives for improvement.
  • Participates in research, evidence-based practice (EBP), or quality improvement (QI) activities.
  • Provides high-quality, safe, patient-centered care with a focus on exceeding service expectations.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements for overall readiness; participates in tracer activities when requested.
• Patient Safety:
  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  • Implements policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently in assigned duties.
  • Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with team members.
  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, or devices and communicates them to those in charge.
  • Participates in hospital, departmental, and/or unit patient safety initiatives.
• Operations:
  • Supports the Charge Nurse role and demonstrates a basic understanding of it.
  • Actively contributes to teamwork (cooperates with peers, is flexible with assignments, takes admissions as required, etc.).
  • Attends briefings and staff meetings regularly.
  • Aware of and supports unit, nursing division, and organizational governance structure.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention activities at the unit level.
  • Provides feedback in peer review as requested.

Requirements

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
• Current AHA BLS certification.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

Pay Range: $39.35 - $54.05 per hour.
