Clinical Nurse Educator III, NICU

About the Role

Coordinates and performs educational activities that promote the competency and development of Sutter Health's nursing staff, including orientation, competency validation, in-service, and continuing education. Assesses, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates nursing educational programs in response to health care demands, trends, identified learning needs, department goals, quality improvement measures, risk management, regulatory changes, and compliancy criteria.

Designs educational offerings (courses, simulations, programs) using processes and methodologies that incorporate the principles of adult education and learning styles. Directs the delivery of education for nursing orientation, conducts competency assessments, facilitates ongoing development, and establishes courses and programs based on annual needs assessments and educational compliancy requirements. Delivers education activities that validate, develop, maintain, and enhance the knowledge and skills of nursing staff.

Maintains educational and competency records in compliance with hospital, Department of Healthcare Services (DHS), Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), The Joint Commission (TJC), and the Institute for Medical Quality (IMQ) standards.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing educational programs.
• Design educational offerings using adult education principles and learning styles.
• Direct the delivery of education for nursing orientation and competency assessments.
• Facilitate ongoing development and establish courses based on needs assessments.
• Maintain educational and competency records in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Deliver education activities to enhance nursing staff knowledge and skills.
• Develop collaborative relationships with internal and external groups to coordinate educational needs and ensure compliance.
• Ensure the privacy of each patient’s Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Identify and solve complex problems using analysis of multiple information sources.
• Prioritize and delegate assignments under varied and urgent conditions.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• RN-Registered Nurse of California license.
• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.
• ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
• NRP-Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification (Preferred).
• 5+ years' experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator.
• 3+ years' experience working in L&D/Post-Partum/NICU/New Family.

Qualifications

• Broad knowledge of clinical nursing, including current trends, safety precautions, equipment, and EHR management software.
• Understanding of adult teaching/learning theories and program assessment, design, promotion, and evaluation.
• General knowledge of scope of practice, evidence-based practices, ANA Code of Ethics, and Patients’ Bill of Rights.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and public speaking skills for diverse audiences.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, SharePoint, Adobe Captivate, HealthStream, and Epic.
• Aptitude for learning new software programs.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Schedule

Full-time days with a variable schedule, including weekends as needed.
