Position Summary

The Nurse Educator is responsible for facilitating the development of clinical excellence through active participation in orientation, training/role transition, internships/externships, career development, continuing education/continued competence and academic partnerships. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes principles of education, adult learning and, for nurses, bases all activities on the professional growth pathway of the Novice to Expert continuum.
  • Responsible for the effective implementation of staff clinical orientation, competency development, and quality nursing education.
  • Serves as a role model and resource to the nursing staff, provides consultation, and participates in the development of nursing care standards in the department.
  • Promotes excellence in nursing as a subject matter expert of the Professional Practice Model.
  • Creates, plans, implements and coordinates orientation for individuals new to the department. Activities to include coaching of new and experienced nursing staff, performance evaluation and growth plans completed in collaboration with management.
  • Actively participates, communicates and serves as a positive change agent and assists in recruitment of staff.
  • Facilitates and evaluates activities related to career development and succession planning for staff.
  • Validates the competency of existing staff and newly hired staff and coordinates in-services, continuing education and policy revisions.

Requirements, Experience And Qualifications

  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in New York State required.
  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience with 2 years in acute or critical care unit.
  • Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Current ACLS and PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Nurse Educator preferred.
  • BSN is required and MSN is preferred.
