Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of patient care and safety, patient, and family advocacy, and demonstrated expertise of the seclusion and restraint process.
  • Meets with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles. Consistently demonstrates support to patient and the treatment process.
  • Maintains an efficient, safe, and productive work environment by delegating staff assignments and providing necessary coaching and support.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees, ensuring they receive direction and coaching as needed.
  • Participates in admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.
  • Oversights the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in the unit, collaborating with other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Identifies and implements program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based on patient and staff feedback, as well as Performance Improvement metrics.
  • Supports the facility's efforts to improve engagement through operationalization of nursing strategies, such as rounding, incident reporting, and other initiatives.
  • Assists with staff scheduling, managing labor in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity guidelines.
  • Manages inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.

Education/Training Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, (BSN) preferred.
  • Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment. License must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience as an RN within behavioral health preferred.
  • Previous experience working as a team lead, preceptor, or trainer preferred.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
  • Certified Registered Nurse - CertCert.
