About the role

The HUP Emergency Department Observation Unit (EDOU) is a 41-bed short-stay unit spread over two floors where patients from the ED receive continued monitoring, typically for 24–48 hours, while undergoing additional testing, evaluation, and specialty consults. As part of a Comprehensive Stroke Center, the EDOU plays a pivotal role in diagnosing ischemic neurologic conditions and works closely with cardiac patients to meet the hospital’s AHA Gold Plus designation as a STEMI receiving center. Nurses function as part of an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing patient wellness and safety while delivering compassionate, meaningful care.
