About the role

This position involves receiving and preparing specimens according to standard protocols and procedures, performing laboratory tests and calculations, maintaining and monitoring equipment, and calibrating instruments. The role also includes performing phlebotomy procedures as needed, and ensuring confidentiality of patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and specialized laboratory testing independently within established timeframes.
  • Analyzes and records quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting, taking appropriate action when results are out of control.
  • Evaluates test performance and results, and escalates issues as necessary.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory guidelines and accreditation standards.
  • Participates in performance improvement opportunities and assists in data collection and analysis.
  • Manages supply and reagent inventory, and supports business development and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Adapts to specific patient populations, including respecting privacy and adapting explanations and communication styles.

Requirements

  • Current license or temporary license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist in the state of practice.
  • Meet CLIA and CAP requirements for testing personnel relative to scope of duties.
  • ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist, with successful completion of the ASCP’s Certification Maintenance Program for those certified on or after January 1, 2004.
  • ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification as a Medical Lab Technician.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Hospital or clinical laboratory testing experience.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Military MLT certificate.
