About the Role

This position provides both clinical and administrative support to ensure smooth patient flow and an efficient front office experience.

Responsibilities

  • Check vital signs, obtain and document medical and social history.
  • Administer injections and perform venipuncture.
  • Schedule appointments, manage patient registration, and coordinate referrals.
  • Process medical records and handle front office duties.
  • Greet patients, verify insurance, and collect payments.
  • Coordinate care services and manage patient phone calls/messages within scope of practice.
  • Ensure the registration area and telephones open promptly; handle closing details.
  • Monitor daily schedules for compliance with clinic guidelines and suggest improvements.
  • Maintain accurate reports, patient statistics, and office productivity data.
  • Manage office and medical supply inventory.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and clinic community activities.
  • Provide patient-centered care, addressing social determinants of health.
  • Comply with HIPAA, CLIA, OSHA, and established clinical/administrative protocols.
  • Appropriately document patient interactions and medical information.
  • Mentor or precept students and volunteers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant training program or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification in the State of Michigan.
  • One (1) year working in a healthcare setting with electronic medical record experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with a strong customer-service orientation.
  • Proficiency in a Windows-based computer system, including email, internet, and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to handle patient and organizational information confidentially.
  • Ability to perform detailed tasks with frequent interruptions and prioritize work effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with vaccine/allergy injection management.
  • College health experience.

Pay

Full-time (1.0 FTE) salary range: $34,000–$48,500. Salary will be prorated based on FTE, which is negotiable between 0.87–1.0 based on candidate interest and availability.

Schedule

Approximately 40 hours per week during August–May, with the opportunity for a reduced summer schedule during June and July depending on the agreed-upon FTE.
