Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing, quality control, phlebotomy, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Serve as a technical resource to Medical Assistants and assist physicians with medical procedures in the office.
• Perform proper quality control procedures before proceeding with patient testing and ensure documentation (test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and lab procedure/training checklists) is completed on schedule.
• Maintain adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and place orders as needed.
• Perform technical laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision, meeting accreditation and regulatory agency standards.
• Follow the Company’s patient I.D. policy and procedure for every patient encounter; perform instrument maintenance as required.
• Initiate troubleshooting procedures for instrument malfunctions and contact the instrument service company if necessary.
• Draw blood for lab work and prepare slides for evaluation.
• Obtain vital signs, height, and weight of patients as requested by physicians and document in the patient’s EMR.
• Place patients in exam rooms and prepare them for physicians in a timely manner.
• Receive lab reports via telephone or fax, document them in the patient’s EMR, and notify physicians of critical lab results according to guidelines.
• Ensure thorough documentation in the medical record of testing and treatment rendered to patients.
• Comply with established safety guidelines and maintain cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.
• Complete duties required to keep the laboratory in compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies, including performing compliance testing.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
• Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, patient rights, safety, billing, and collections.
• Adhere to all Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and the Disaster Recovery Plan.
• Maintain FL MLT license and required continuing education units (CEUs).
• Assist in training new employees on related job duties.
• Work at any Company location to meet business needs.
• Work overtime when given sufficient notice.

Requirements

• A.A. or A.S. degree and a Technician License in the state of Florida.
• National lab certification preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience in the healthcare field, preferably in a clinical setting.
• BLS certification preferred.
