Clinical Laboratory Technician - Microbiology

About the role

Labcorp is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Microbiology team at our Holyoke, MA lab. This full-time position operates on a Sunday - Thursday overnight shift from 10:00 pm to 6:30 am.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care
• Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
• In lieu of the above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits meeting CLIA standards may qualify
• Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, and procedures
• Experience working in a high-volume laboratory environment
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Proficiency with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail, strong communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience in Microbiology
• ASCP or AMT certification

Pay

$27.00 - $41.00 per hour + Shift Differential. Compensation is based on skills, relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, and internal equity.

Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits. Employees on a 7-on/7-off schedule receive all benefits except PTO or FTO.
