Clinical Laboratory Technician 1, Renton Central Lab

About the role

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Renton, WA has an opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 with the Specimen Processing Services Team at the Renton Central Laboratory. As a CLT 1, you will play a vital role in the diagnostic process of laboratory testing, influencing the timely and accurate diagnosis of patients at UW Medicine and beyond. The Specimen Processing Services Team embraces diversity, collaboration, and a supportive work culture.

Responsibilities

• Sort and prioritize initial specimens and requests, receive specimens.
• Match specimens against requisitions for appropriate tube type.
• Prepare reagents, chemical solutions, culture media, or cell cultures according to established procedures.
• Operate laboratory equipment such as electronic balances, microscopes, spectrophotometers, pH meters, autoclaves, metering pumps, and centrifuges.
• Centrifuge and aliquot appropriate specimen type and quantity as ordered.
• Assist in orientation, training, and support of new employees.
• Refer testing to other laboratories as procedurally necessary.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and legible records.
• Clean work area at least once each shift.
• Answer telephones, intercom, and window reception in a courteous and professional manner.
• Perform computer functions required for completion of tasks: data entry of patient information and tests requested, printing, worksheets, reports, result inquiry, etc.
• Respond to inquiries concerning patient lab values, reference ranges, specimen requirements, procedures, time required for tests, and preparation of specimens to outside labs for analysis.
• Resolve specimen or order-related problems.
• Attend division and departmental staff meetings.
• Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork in the service and working relationship between the laboratory and other departments.
• Complete compliance, safety, and other training relevant to job functions as assigned.
• Perform the work of a Clinical Laboratory Assistant.
• Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience OR completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Pay

Pay Range Minimum: $26.88 hourly
Pay Range Maximum: $38.46 hourly

Schedule

• 100% FTE (Full-Time Equivalent)
• Permanent Evening Shift
• Monday – Friday with rotating holidays
