Clinical Laboratory Supervisor - Nights

General Summary

Recruits, orients, and supervises technical staff working within the Clinical Laboratory. Collaborates with the laboratory leadership team to promote retention of staff through recognition and promotion of teamwork within and across shifts.

Principal Job Functions

• Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient’s growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
• Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
• Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.
• Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
• Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience required, preferably in a hospital or clinical reference laboratory environment required.
• Prior employee training or supervisory experience preferred.
• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required.

Physical Requirements

(DOT) – Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
