About the Role

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II performs high-complexity laboratory testing (Next Generation DNA sequencing) on patient specimens, quality control and assurance procedures, interprets and reports results, and ensures compliance with all applicable regulations. The role requires meticulous record-keeping, attention to detail, multitasking, and flexibility with tasks and schedules.

Schedule

Wednesday–Saturday; 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM PT

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses per standard operating procedures.
  • Review, interpret, and report patient results in LIMS.
  • Identify and troubleshoot high-complexity problems affecting test performance.
  • Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures.
  • Document corrective actions for test system deviations.
  • Perform and document routine preventive maintenance.
  • Assist in training new laboratory personnel.
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory and prepare reagents for testing.
  • Perform and document reagent qualification per approved protocols.
  • Conduct annual reviews of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Report test quality or safety concerns to the Laboratory Supervisor or Safety Officer.
  • Participate in assay improvements, new configurations, and validation.
  • Perform other laboratory duties as assigned and assist team members as needed.

Requirements

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations.
  • Ability to integrate and apply feedback professionally.
  • Strong prioritization skills with a focus on quality results.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Work Environment

  • Majority of work performed in a desk/office environment; occasional exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard materials in the laboratory.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • May require lifting routine office supplies and using standard office equipment.

Demonstrate curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to critically evaluate and responsibly leverage AI-enabled tools in accordance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of work.

Hybrid Work Model

This role is eligible for a hybrid work model. Employees within 50 miles of a Guardant facility are required to work onsite Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Scheduled in-office days foster collaboration, while remote days support focused work.

Pay

Annualized base salary ranges (excluding benefits, bonus, commission, or equity):

  • Primary Location (Redwood City, CA): $58 – $79 per hour
  • Other U.S. Locations: $49 – $67 per hour
  • Colorado: $52 – $71 per hour

Compensation is based on geography, experience, education, skills, duties, and business need.
